January and February in Chicago can beyond brutal; frigid weather not only freezes our hands and toes, it can also freeze out the fun. That's why starting today, I'm going to seek out super-entertaining ways to survive the cold. First up: Learn a new art.
Today marks the start of Lillstreet Art Center's First-Time Artist program's winter session. The courses are geared toward beginners who want to learn new techniques with other beginners (i.e. no pressure for your first work to rival a Picasso). Learn photography, painting, pottery, drawing, sewing, knitting, and so much more. Classes are $165 and last four to five weeks — just in time for the thaw.
Lillstreet (4401 N. Ravenswood Ave., 773-769-4226) has been supporting the arts and teaching aspiring artists for 35 years. That's a lot of winters.
