Brand new to Ukrainian Village, intimate retreat Parlor 836 has quickly become a much-loved neighborhood beauty spot. Run by sisters Vanessa and Jessica Maya — both of whom have been in the biz for more than a decade — the salon/spa offers nail, threading, waxing, and massage services at incredibly affordable prices. Nail services include expert regular and no-chip manicures and pedicures, and Vanessa is the waxing and threading pro. She uses Cirepil hard wax, which doesn't require strips and is less painful, and she was first introduced to threading as a child. "We grew up on Devon in an Indian neighborhood, and we've been getting threaded since we were very young," Vanessa says. "When I got my beautician license, that's what I started doing off the bat." The in-house masseuse spent years working at luxury resorts, including the Ritz-Carlton, and if he's not booked, he'll often be found offering complimentary chair massages to nail clients. Walk-ins are welcome during the week, but make an appointment if you want to come in on the weekend. A spot this good is bound to be busy.
