Sophia Boutique Top Trends For Spring
Style Watch: Sofia Boutique Owner Talks Top Trends For Spring
Sofia Boutique (72 E. Oak St., 312-640-0878) has only been open since 2009, but it has quickly gained a loyal — and fashionable — local following. After moving from Clark Street to a prime Oak Street location last Spring, owners and sisters Ashley Zisook and Allison Zisook Goldstein expanded their stock to carry both vintage (more of their original concept) and new lines that garner celeb accolades. Nicole Richie strolled in with hubby Joel Madden back in March after Paris Fashion Week. Richie, whose House of Harlow 1960 line is sold at the boutique, was said to have purchased several vintage handbags and furs, according to Sofia's blog.
But despite the fact that both sisters have an undeniable eye for fashion, their styles differ. Unlike her more conservative sis, Ashley has an eclectic, risk-taking style (she did previously jet off to LA to pursue a career as a DJ) that leans toward California 1970s boho-chic. (She loves those oversize vintage sunglasses!) Ashley shares with us some of her top looks for Spring, all of which can be found at Sofia!
Ashley's Top Trends
- Colored denim: Celebrities like Whitney Port and have recently been seen all over town wearing one of Spring's biggest trends: colored denim. Everyone here at Sofia has been obsessed with M2F’s colored jeans; we were introduced to them last year with the bright boyfriend cut and mini-cutoffs. M2F's Denim looks as though it has been well loved for years and is perfectly broken in — they really do feel like you are wearing leggings! This spring, M2F has nailed the color palette: all amazing pastel shades of yellow, orange, pink, blue, cream, green and lavender. My personal favorites are the lavender (pictured above, $142) and the green starflower skinny jeans.
- Aztec prints: Aztec prints are huge for Spring! You can find almost every type of clothing in these fun prints from dresses, tops, and skirts. If you prefer a more understated look, you can also find these fun patterns on handbags and jewelry. My two favorite pieces we currently have at Sofia are the Myne maxi dress and JADEtribe cross-body bag in turquoise.
- Going backless: The back is back! I love this trend, as it is feminine, sexy, and sophisticated. Whether it is a dress or shirt, this is going to be a major staple in your Spring and Summer wardrobe. Kova & T has an amazing blue/white striped dress that will look perfect with wedges for a casual night out, or you can throw a blazer over it for the workplace!
- Maxi skirts and dresses: The hemlines are getting longer and longer — both maxi skirts and dresses are everywhere! Since the '70s are back for 2011, we are seeing the return of this boho style. The hottest new styles are made out of lace prints or have bright hues. I love a maxi dress, as you can wear it to almost any occasion — all you have to do is change accessories! My favorite is the Audrey Dress by Ani Lee (pictured right, $198). I love the bright blue color with the orange detail on the shoulder.
