East Meets West: A Tour Through Tony Hu's Chinatown

I've been going to Chicago's Chinatown since I was little. My brother and I never got sick of the mocktails and "surprise" packages in one of the little hole in the wall shops - even if the contents were only garage sale type items like an oriental fan, back scratcher, and out-of-date calendar (for real). As an adult, those mocktails turned into Mai-Tais and my curiosity was more for the different restos than my beloved fan.

While there are very few old-school staples like Won Kow (2237 S. Wentworth Ave., 312-842-7500) left in the Chinatown scene, chef and restaurateur Tony Hu still keeps the slightly mysterious neighborhood and community alive with not one but five restaurants of slightly different cuisine and aesthetic. Come take a visual tour through Tony Hu's Chinatown. Not as much fun as eating your way through, but it's a start.
