Culture Watch: Artist Yvonne Domenge's Sculptures Come to Millennium Park

Need a sign of Spring after a week-plus of decidedly unwarm weather? On Wednesday, acclaimed Mexican artist Yvonne Domenge's large-scale sculptures, titled Interconnected, make their debut in Millennium Park. The park is set to start a season of awesome programming soon (I've already scored tickets to Ray Lamontagne's sold-out show at Pritzer Pavilion on June 7). Stop by the Boeing Galleries at Michigan Avenue and Randolph Streets - entry to the park is always free - starting April 6, 2011, through October 2012 to check out the four organic-shaped, colorful sculptures, created specifically for Chicago's grandest park. The largest sculpture, Tree of Life (shown above right), is a bronze sculpture painted bright red and measuring 16 feet tall. According to the artist, the tree "symbolizes life’s energy, and the seeds scattered beneath represent the beauty and fragility of new life." The other three sculptures are spheres made of steel and measure between 10 and 13 feet tall. Now if it would just stay warm enough for a walk among the sculptures!
