Kate Stahl | November 21, 2011 9:00 amChicago has been Michelin crazy lately, after this week's announcement of which local restaurants were deemed worthy of a star or two, or, in the case of Alinea, three. But I am always equally interested in the restaurants that receive the Bib Gourmand award, Michelin's designation of the city's best-value restaurants. I'm quite familiar with most of the 56 Chicago-area restaurants that were awarded the Bib Gourmand (which means that, for $40 or less, diners can enjoy two courses and a glass of wine or dessert), but I loved that there were a few outliers on the list, giving me four new reasons to dine out this week.Read More

Kate Stahl | November 17, 2011 8:00 amWith Thanksgiving a week away, now is not exactly a low-cal season, and we're embracing it by celebrating some serious comfort foods! Last week, we talked about the best grilled cheeses in town, and this week, we're talking about another of our fave cheese-filled dishes: mac and cheese. Rebecca Taras | November 16, 2011 8:30 amHaving never dined anywhere else for Thanksgiving other than my parents' house (consistently delicious every year), I never spent the time to navigate through Chicago's culinary scene for turkey day offerings. So upon my research, one thing's for certain: there is more than one way to serve a bird. Take a tour through some of the top dining options around town and make those resos!Read More
Rebecca Taras | November 15, 2011 8:45 amWhether it's peanut butter, eggs, or a can of Campbell's soup, chances are you have a go-to ingredient you're thankful to have on hand when putting together a meal on the fly — or for a group. It's no surprise that professionally trained chefs do too. Here's a look at the ingredients they are most thankful for and a delicious dish you'll find at their restaurant using their secret ammunition.Read More
Rebecca Taras | November 14, 2011 8:00 amWelcome back to our new series "L" Eats, where we explore accessible (and delicious) restaurants just steps away from Chicago's CTA train stops. Last time we covered the Brown Line, which included new (Farmhouse), old (Bistro Campagne), and soon-to-be open (Slurping Turtle) dining destinations. This time, we're headed down the Red Line.Read More
Kate Stahl | November 10, 2011 9:00 amI've been trying to stick to a healthy diet lately, which means I've been obsessing about all the delicious foods I haven't been eating. (I miss you, doughnuts.) But at the top of my recent craving list is most definitely grilled cheese. Your favorite childhood sandwich has gotten a grown-up, gourmet makeover at many restaurants around town.Read More
Kate Stahl | November 7, 2011 10:00 amOne of the greatest parts of living in Chicago is getting out of Chicago, particularly to charming destinations like Harbor County and Lake Geneva, both of which are a mere 90 minutes away. And now, with the multimillion dollar renovation of the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa, I have a new excuse to head to Wisconsin, and this Fall is the time to do it.
Formerly the Lake Geneva Playboy Club (yes, that Playboy), a home away from home for celebs like Sammy Davis Jr. and Cher in the 1960s, the 1,300-acre resort is now a perfect getaway for couples looking for romance, a girls' trip, or a family escape.Read More
Kate Stahl | November 3, 2011 8:00 amIf you're anything like me, the minute temps drop below 60, you start craving comforting, warming drinks. A cup of tea gets me through the morning, but when I need a sugar jolt in the afternoon, it's hot chocolate I crave. Swiss Miss works when I'm in a fix, but when I have the time, I'm heading to one of these five spots for a grown-up take on my childhood favorite.Read More
